Rachel Cardella Stephens, 92, of Malden, Mo., died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at Ridgeview Nursing Center in Malden.
Born March 22, 1911, in Greely, Mo. daughter of the late James C. and Sarah Jane Shaw Barton, she was a member of the Mt. Zion General Baptist Church in Gideon, Mo.
On Sept. 12, 1931, in Caruthersville, Mo., she married Lester Stephens, who preceded her in death on Oct. 11, 1985. She was also preceded in death by one son, Darrel Stephens; one brother, Edgar Barton; five sisters, Beatrice Ward, Mamie Ayers, Esther Richardson, Ava Barton and Lennie Shelton and one grandson, Christopher Herring.
Survivors include four daughters, Jewell Bell and husband, Steve, of Dexter, Mo., Betty Bernice Williams and husband, Bill, of Pacific, Mo., Wanda Marriott, of Malden and Hazel Floyd, of Shell Knob, Mo,; four sons, Jerry Stephens and wife, Gwen, of Clearwater, Fla., Gary Stephens and wife, Dian, of Bowling Green, Ky., Junior Stephens and wife, Dorothy, of Osceola, Ark. and Lindell Stephens and wife, Suzette, of Risco, Mo.; one sister, Tinia Skaggs, of Antioch, Calif.; 26 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today, Wednesday, Feb. 4, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joe Williams officiating.
Burial will follow at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Malden.
Memorials may be made to the Mt. Zion General Baptist Church in Gideon.
