Verna Roberts

Verna Marie Roberts, 71, of Wappapello, Mo. died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Born Feb. 4, 1932, in Ellsinore, Mo., daughter of Edith Cates Carter and the late Joseph Lloyd Carter, she was a member of the New Prospect Baptist Church in Malden, Mo.

She married Clifford Roberts, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Naomi Dockins; one brother, Freeman Carter and one grandchild, Heather Marie Roberts.

Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Marie Florida, of Lexington, Tenn. and Barbara Garris, of Wappapello; one son, Kenneth Ray Roberts, of Dog Creek, Okla.; her mother, Edith Carter, of Puxico, Mo.; two sisters, Letha McElvoy, of Springfield, Mo. and Brenda Collins, of Lakeland, Fla.; two brothers, Ivan Willis, of Bonne Terre, Mo. and Sherman Lloyd Carter, of Bernie, Mo.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel in Malden with the Rev. Paul Starnes officiating.

Burial was in the Little Brushy Cemetery at Wappapello.
