Father William P. Thro, SJ, 83, a former resident of Dunklin County, died Oct. 27, 2003.
Born at St. Charles, Mo. he entered the Jesuit order in 1939 at St. Stanislaus Seminary in Florissant, Mo. He made his first vows in 1941 and was ordained a priest in 1952. He received a bachelor's degree in Latin from St. Louis University.
From 1954 to 1958 he served as minister at St. Stanislaus Seminary from 1958 to 1976. From 1958 to 1976 he worked as a missionary in Belize, South America. He served as a minister and pastor at parishes there from 1979 to 1990.
From 1991 to 1996, Fr. Thro was pastor of St. Teresa Parish at Glennonville, Mo. From 1997 until his death he worked as a pastoral minister in the Diocese of Colorado Springs, Colo.
Fr. Thro was the last surviving brother of the four Thro brothers who were members of the Jesuits of the Missouri Province. Preceding him in death within the past five years were Fathers Edward A., Linus J. and Thomas F. Thro, and their brother Robert L. Thro.
Burial was at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Denver.
