She was born on August 11, 1916, at Senath, a daughter of Alvis Jordan and Bettie Wright Graves. She graduated from Senath High School.
On January 2, 1938, she married Roy Edwin Harris. They were the parents of one daughter, Eleanor Graves Harris.
With her sister, Marianna, Mrs. Harris operated a beauty shop in Senath for a number of years beginning in the early 1930s.
For over 70 years she was a dedicated member of the Senath Baptist Church. She served the church as secretary of the Adult Sunday School Department, was organist and pianist, and was a member of the choir. Mrs. Harris was a talented china painter, and was a member of the Northeast Arkansas China Painters. She was a member of the board of directors of Dalton Cotton Company of Senath.
Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Harris, on November 4, 1987; a brother, Rudie Slaughter, Sr. and a sister, Marianna Graves Wallace.
She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Eleanor and Elton Dalton of Kennett; two grandchildren: Dr. Kyle Dalton and his wife Kay of Conway, Ark. and Elizabeth Dalton Craig and her husband Robert of Kennett; and four great-grandchildren: Cathy Lee Dalton, Kelsey Dalton, Stephen Craig and Dalton Craig. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held Friday morning, October 31, at 11 a.m., at the First Baptist Church in Senath. A private burial will precede the service in the Oak Ridge Cemetery at Kennett.
Visitation will be held Thursday night, October 30, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.
Memorials are requested to the Senath Baptist Church or the Delta Childrens Home in Kennett.
