Gladys Marie Sorrell, 98, of Hayti, Mo., died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
Born May 28, 1905, in Mclean County, Ky., daughter of the late Sam and Estal Florence Cates Bell, she was a member of the Dry Bayou Baptist Church, a member of the Pemiscot County Historical Society and a 4-H leader.
On Oct. 14, 1922, in Blytheville, Ark., she married Chester S. Sorrell, who preceded her in death on Oct. 19, 1972. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Harry Bell and one sister, Evelyn Arant.
Survviors include one daughter, Anita Camp, of Hayti; one grandson, Maurice Camp, of Hayti; one great-granddaughter, Candice Camp Seabaugh, of Cape Girardeau, Mo. and a host of other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, at the Dry Bayou Baptist Church north of Hayti with Dr. Mike Melton and the Rev. Stan Smith officiating.
Burial was in the Maple Cemetery at Caruthersville, Mo.
Pallbearers were Robert Plunk, Lee Watkins, Calvin Ratliff, Victor Sample, B.A. Cross and Alan Newman.
John W. German Funeral Home of Hayti was in charge of arrangements.
