Pauline L. Johnson, 85, formerly of Caruthersville, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at Decatur County General Hospital in Parsons, Tenn.
Born Oct. 22, 1917, in Wardell, Mo., daughter of the late John Jefferson and Betty Lomax Mathis, she owned and operated a grocery store and fertilizer plant along with her husband and was a member of the Temple Baptist Church in Caruthersville.
On Sept. 30, 1938, in Blytheville, Ark., she married Damon Lloyd Johnson, Sr., who preceded her in death on March 31, 1985. She was also preceded in death by three brothrs, Kinch, Harvel and Robert Mathis and one sister, Marylene Angotti.
Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Stanfill, of Reagan, Tenn.; one son, Damon L. Johnson, Jr., of Hayti, Mo.; one sister, Clodine Trail, of Sikeston, Mo. and three grandchildren, Brian Stanfill, of Phoenix, Ariz., Martin Stanfill, of Reagan and Jeff Stanfill, of Wiggins, Miss.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at the H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Caruthersville with the Rev. Kenny Durham officiating.
Burial was in the Pemiscot Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Caruthersville.
Pallbearers were Thurman Todd, Gary, Bill, Jeff and Marty Stanfill and Danny Angotti.
