Born Aug. 17, 1926, in Bucoda, Mo., son of the late Carl and Elizabeth McDole Thompson, he was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in WWII, member of the Senath American Legion Post and a member of the First Baptist Church.
On March 18, 1949, in Piggott, Ark., he married Goldie Thompson, who survives of the home.
Survivors also include one son, Denny Cain and wife, Claudia, of Memphis; one daughter, Cathy Bateman and husband, Keith, of Sikeston, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Pam Thompson, of Senath; three sisters, Mavis Johnson, of Phoenix, Ariz., Betty Maples, of St. Louis, Mo. and Doris Fitzgibbons, of St. Charles, Mo.; six grandchildren, Ronnie Cain, Christy Bentley, Latasha Hauptman, Joe Don Thompson and Ryan and Aaron Bateman and one great-grandson, Trenton Thompson.
He was preceded in death by one son, Douglas Thompson.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Friday, Oct. 3, at the First Baptist Church on Senath with the Revs. Doug Clinton and Derek Combs officiating.
Burial was in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Kennett.
Pallbearers were Steve Odle, Mardon Layne, Eddie Adams, Don Wallace, Scottie Jackson and John Wilcox.
Honorary pallbearers were American Legion members, Jimmie Don Odle, Kenneth Sikes, R.W. McLain, Joe Bost and Larry Hemphill.
McDaniel Funeral Home of Senath was in charge of arrangements.
