The Kennett High School 2003 Homecoming will officially get under way on Friday, Oct. 3, with the Homecoming Parade starting from the high school at 2 p.m., and ending at the steps of the Dunklin County Courthouse. The crowning of the queen is scheduled to begin at approximately 2:30 p.m.

The speaker at this year's ceremony is Christel Jefferson of Kennett.

Jefferson is a 1992 graduate of Kennett High School and a 1999 graduate of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Ill. She is employed by the Kennett School District where she teaches at the high school and serves as head coach of the high school girl's basketball team.

She is a former member of the Kennett High School basketball, cross country, tennis and track teams. She was inducted into the KHS Indian Hall of Fame in 2001. She is the parent of one child, Noah Smith.

The 2003 Homecoming Queen, Elizabeth Jackson and her court will make its entrance into Metz Cherry Stadium at 6:50 p.m., with the kickoff of the homecoming game set for 7:30 p.m. with the Kennett Indians hosting the Portageville Bulldogs.

The Homecoming Royalty will be presented at half-time. Following presentation of the royalty, the complete instrumental department of Kennett Public Schools will present a special half-time show under direction of Vicki Treadway, band director and Tom Ryan, assistant band director.

Homecoming royalty includes Queen Elizabeth Jackson, daughter of Randy and Darlene Jackson, her escort, Stephen Rooney, son of Tommy and Margaret Rooney and driver, Brett Palmer, son of Bill and Kathy Palmer.

Senior Maid, Courtney McMahan, daughter of Bobby and Karen McMahon, her escort, Justin Harris, son of Glen and Dianna Harris and driver, Tyrone Duckworth, son of Willie Duckworth and Ella Jackson.

Junior Maid, Haylee Hunt, daughter of Bud and Lee Hunt, her escort, Brandon Burcham, son of Britt and Beverly Burcham and driver, David Wilson, son of Gerald and Marilyn Reeves.

Sophomore Maid, Alicia Bridges, daughter of Jeff and Susan Bridges, her escort, Dustin Harris, son of Glen and Dianna Harris and driver, Whitney Bruce, daughter of Terry and Becky Bruce.

Freshman Maid Mandy Newman, daughter of Randy and Lisa Newman, her escort, Dustin Lancaster, son of Shane and Julieana Lancaster and driver, Charla Chailland, daughter of Larry and Ruth Chailland.

Drivers of school officials are Jeff Bailey, son of Howard and Gene Bailey and Brea Rose, daughter of Linda Rose.

Drivers of the mayor are Raven Mitchell, daughter of Jerry and Nelda Mitchell and Tara Pool, daughter of Donnie and Tammy Pool.

Completing homecoming activities, the traditional dance will be held in the high school gymnasium following the football game from 9:30 p.m. until midnight.
