Calvin Lee Dunavant, 78, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003 at the River Oaks Care Center in Steele, Mo.
Born on December 25, 1924, a son of the late Robert Lee and Jewell Wattle Dunavant, he was a member of the St. John's Episcopal Church in Caruthersville. He was inducted into the United States Army on December 1, 1944 at Jefferson Barracks, Mo. He received his honorable discharge at Fort Sheridan, Ill., on November 17, 1946. He received two Bronze Stars while serving his country.
On December 25, 1946 in Piggott, Ark., he married Wanda Jean Mollett, who survives of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Rick and Steve Dunavant, both of Caruthersville; one granddaughter, Stephanie Dunavant of Caruthersville; one brother, Robert Earl Dunavant of Greenville, Miss.; and two sisters, Lavada Crowe of Greenville, Miss., and Patricia Mills of Jackson, Miss.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, in the H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Caruthersville, with Rev. John Earl Dunavant officiating.
Burial was in the Maple Cemetery in Caruthersville.
Pallbearers were Paul Dunavant, Robert Pike, Bobby Pike, Robert Lynn, Joe Parkinson, and Rocky Dunavant.
