Billy Joe Stanfield, 66, of Dexter, Mo., formerly of Steele, Mo., died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003 at the St. Frances Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Born June 14, 1937 in Steele, son of Lottys DePriest Stanfield, of Marion, Ark. and the late William Stanfield, he served as Chief of Police for Steele for19 years and was a member of the Police Chief Association. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was united in marriage to Lois Teeter.
Survivors include two sons, Billy Joe Stanfield, Jr. and wife, Laura, of Steele and Ricky Joe Stanfield and wife, Tina, of Dexter; one daughter, Debbie Laster, of Kennett; two sisters, Loretta Flets of Malden, Mo. and Patsy Young, of Marion and one grandson, Ricky Joe Stanfield, Jr., of Dexter.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Althia Mae Plummer Wheeler.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13 at the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Steele with the Rev. Mike Hargraves officiating. Special music and a eulogy was by his brother-in-law, Narvel Felts.
Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery at Steele.
Pallbearers were Ronnie Pritchett, Scotty Young, Keith Adams, Eddie Rinehart and Kevin Jackson.
Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Darnell, Randy McDaniel and Lance Guthrie.
