Chester James, 88, of Portageville, Mo., died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, at the Methodist Hospital in Germantown, Tenn.
Born Aug. 29, 1915, in Pemiscot County, Mo., son of the late Jim and Birdie Pruitt James, he was a butcher and of the Pentecostal faith.
He married Evelyn Glenn, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by one grandson, Tracy Tucker.
Survivors include three daughters, Bonita McCoy, of Portageville, Nita Ferrell, of Bartlett, Tenn. and Kay Tucker, of Memphis, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at noon today, Thursday, Sept. 11, at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele, Mo. with the Rev. Elzie Danley officiating.
Bradshaw-Powell Funeral Home of Steele was in charge of arrangements.
