Roy R. Batchlor, 89, of Kennett, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at Heritage Nursing Center in Kennett.

Sanders Lee Terrett, 45, of Hayti, Mo., died Monday, August 18, 2003 in Hayti. Born on June 1, 1958, at Morehouse, Mo., he was a son of the late William Mearl and Laura Mae Miller Terrett.
Survivors include four sons, Randy Terrett of Caruthersville, Mo., Roy, Eddie, and William Van Vickle, all of Hayti; four daughters, Sherry Thomas of Caruthersville, Lena Pascacio of Memphis, Tenn., Amanda Thomas and Judy VanVickle, both of Hayti; five grandchildren, Austin and Lexus Phelps of Caruthersville, Sylvia and Anna Pascacio of Memphis, and Courtney Terrett of Caruthersville; two brothers, Charles Terrett of Steele,and Jesse Terrett of Doniphan, Mo.; two sisters, Laura Ragan of Hayti, and Quendell Sandusky, of Steele.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Chronister.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 21, at the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Hayti, with Dr. Mike Melton officiating.
Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Hayti.
Pallbearers were James Terrett, Robert Terrett, Joey Terrett, Michael Terrett, W.H. Sandusky, Sr., and W.H. Sandusky, Jr.
Mildred Tompkins, 74, of Qulin, Mo., died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, at her home.
Born July 15, 1929, in Qulin, a daughter of the late Jack and Vina "Nobles" Campbell, she was a homemaker.
On July 26, 1946, in St. Louis, she married Joe Tompkins who preceded her in death on June 14, 1996.
Survivors include three children, David Tompkins and wife, Donna, of Broseley, Mo., Michael J. Tompkins and wife, Cindy, of Qulin and Jackie Stevens of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; three sisters, Dorlus Davis of Dupo, Ill. and Blanche Davis of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; three grandchildren, Machelle Liles of Clarkton, Mo., Matthew and Brian Tompkins of Qulin; two great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Veronica Liles of Clarkton.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Bernice Hefner.
Funeral services are 4 p.m. today, Sunday, Aug. 24, at the Landess Funeral Home of Campbell, wit the Rev. Gary Hancock officiating.
Burial will be in Qulin Cemetery at Qulin.
J.L. (James Layfette) Whitfield, 90, of Hayti, Mo., died Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at the Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti.
Born on November 25, 1912 in Benton County, Tenn., a son of the late Thomas Wesley and Liza Belle Hatley Whitfield, he was a farmer and a member of the Steele Church of Christ were he was an elder and the song leader for many years.
On January 25, 1936, in Steele, he married Ludie Estelle Hamilton, who preceded him in death on October 7, 1998.
Survivors include one son, John Duane Whitfield of San Antonio, Texas; two daughters, Sandra Lynn Jones of Lettsworth, La., and Janie Sue Hamm of Hayti; 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, four great great-grandchildren; three brothers, David and Buck Whitfield, both of Steele and Douthitt Whitfield of Camden, Tenn.
He was also preceded in death by one son, James Wesley "Jim" Whitfield, one brother, Thomas C. Whitfield; and two sisters, Christine Yates and Irene Hatley.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 22, at the Church of Christ in Steele with John Mundy officiating.
Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele.
Pallbearers were grandsons, John Whitfield, Chad Hill, Lafe Jones, Josh Shelly, son-in-law, Jimmy Jones and nephew, Roy Whitfield.
