Willard Benard McFarland, 86, of Hornersville, Mo., died Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, at Memphis, Tenn.
Born Jan. 10, 1917, in Blytheville, Ark., son of the late George William and Catherine May Brownfield McFarland, he was a member of the Hornersville Methodist Church, Hornersville Masonic Lodge 215, Past Worship Master and former mayor of the City of Hornersville.
On Oct. 25, 1947, in Hornersville, he married Bernice Dry, who survives of the home.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice McFarland, of Hornersville; two sons, Barry McFarland and wife, Michelle and Bill McFarland and Lisa Frey, all of Hornersville; one daughter, Jeanetta McFarland Davis and husband, Rex, of Huntsville, Texas; one sister, Grace Glisson, of Senath, Mo.; two special friends, Johnny Metcalf and Gary Ivy and also his most precious friend, Kelley Washburn. She loved and cared for him and the entire family in a way that will not be forgotten.; three grandchildren, Nani McFarland, Doug Davis and Dianne Evans and five great-grandchildren, Blake, Chase and Tanner Evans, Bailey and Avery Davis. Mr. McFarland is also survived by other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by one brother, William McFarland.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, at the Methodist Church in Hornersville with Revs. Jim Hogue and David Powell officiating.
Burial was in the Maple Grove Cemetery at Blytheville.
Serving as pallbearers were Joe Mel Hinesly, Doug Davis, Ron Lea, Mark Moore, James Tinnin and Tim Jamerson.
Benard was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather and a true friend to those that knew him. He was there when needed.

McDaniel Funeral Home of Hornersville was in charge of arrangements.
