Zela Cecil

Zela Lorene Cecil, 70, of Steele, Mo., died in Cordova, Tenn., Monday, June 23, 2003.

Born April 5, 1933, in Steele, the daughter of the late Claude and Ester Kendrick Jones, she attended schools in Steele and Memphis State University in Memphis, Tenn. She was a member and treasurer of the Methodist Church in Steele.

On June 16, 1951, in Jonesboro, Ark., she married Lester Dean Cecil who preceded her in death in 1986. She was also preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.

Survivors include one daughter, Kathy Davis of Cordova; one son, Les Cecil of Lewisburg, Miss; her mother-in-law, Elizabeth Cecil of Steele and grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 27, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Steele with the Rev. Tom Zych officiating.

Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery with H.S. Smith Funeral Home of Caruthersville in charge of services.

Pallbearers were John W. Gill, Jr., Rick Young, Therron Nowlin, Dana J. Mullins, F. Jay Fluty, Chris S. Enlow and Glenn A. Still.

Lottie Creed

Lottie Marie Creed, 96, of Senath, Mo., died Thursday, June 26, 2003, at NHC Healthcare of Kennett.

Born Jan. 23, 1907, in Senath, she was a daughter of the late Jessie "Bud" and Ethel Lee Phillips.

She married the Rev. Hillis Creed who preceded her in death Sept. 16, 1968.

Survivors include three daughters, Veda Brewer, Juanita Holt and Margie Chandler, all of Senath; Leo Baker and Lee Wayne Baker of Detroit, Mich.; four sisters, Irene McNew of Senath, Opal Greer of Paragould, Ark., Ruth Hansen of Royal Oak, Mich. and Ola Greer of Rockford, Ill.; eight grandchildren, 16 great-granchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, L.T. and J.D. Baker and by three sisters, Zeta McNew, Gertie Whitehead and Francis Edwards.

Funeral services were 10 a.m. Saturday, June 28, at McDaniel Funeral Service Chapel in Senath with the Rev. Vernon Purser officiating.

Burial was in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kennett.

Pallbearers were Verlon Phelps, Allen Brewer, Freddie Chandler, Shane Droke, Jason Droke, Sean Droke and Brandon Brewer.

Velma Davidson

Velma Davidson, 91, of Gideon, Mo., died Friday, June 27, 2003, at Point Lookout of Christian Healthcare in Hollister, Mo.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete with Bradshaw Funeral Home of Gideon.

Elsie Hinklin

Elsie Elizabeth Hinklin, 78, of Cooter, Mo., died Thursday, June 26, 2003, at Blytheville, Ark.

Born Thursday, June 4, 1925, in Blytheville, a daughter of the late Elmer and Mary Collins, she was a retired certified nurses aide and member of the Assembly of God Church.

On Nov. 4, 1943, she married Homer Hinklin.

Survivors include two sons, Ray Hinklin and wife, Geraldine, of St. Louis and Jerry Hinklin and wife, Patricia, of Cooter; two daughters, Linda Childress and husband, Ken, or Barbaton, Ohio; and Gale Marrow of Cooter; two brothers, Wesley Collins and Edward Collins, both of Goshen, Ind.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Opal and Margaret.

Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 28, at Bradshaw-Powell Funeral Chapel in Steele with the Rev. Dale Lewelling officiaing.

Burial was in Number Eight Cemetery at Cooter.

Clara Maclin

Clara Maclin, 93, of Wardell, Mo., died Friday, June 27, 2003, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete with Bradshaw Funeral Home of Wardell.

Harvey Mead

Harvey Lee Mead, 65, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at Pemiscot Memorial Healthcare Systems in Hayti, Mo.

Born Feb. 16, 1938, in Grenada County, Miss., he was a son of the late Thomas and Anna Mae Knox Mead.

On July 3, 1993, he married Velma Crenshaw, who survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Willie Mead and wife, Linda, and Harvey Mead and wife, Kesha; five step-son, Mathis Crenshaw, Alfea Crenshaw and wife, April, Algie Crenshaw and wife, Keena, Robert and Lee Jones; seven daughters, Cynthia Finley and husband, David, Brenda Mead, Barbara Knutson and husband, Larry, Melissa and Darlene Mead, Denza Oliver and husband, Tom and Sonya Stokes; two step-daughters, Marlow Moore and husband, Rodney and Helane Jones; two adopted children, Robert and Robin Jackson; six brothers, James Henry Wright, Rufus Wright, Saul Wright, Thomas Mead, Jr. and wife, Sonya, Terry Mead and wife, Beverly and Larry Phillips and wife, Emma; two brothers-in-law, Albert and Arthur Cole; eight sisters, Claraine Fuller and husband, Kenard, Mary Cummings, Cora Harper, Smithie Tennison, Dorothy Rose and husband, Frank, Elizabeth Guyton, Cletha Wilbourn and husband, Earl and Katie Sanderson; 49 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. today, Sunday, June 29, at Pentecostal Power New Deliverance Church at Caruthersville where funeral services will also be held at 1 p.m. today

Burial will be in United Baptist Church Cemetery at Gobler, Mo. with McDaniel Funeral Service of Kennett in charge of services.

Pallbearers will be Terry Mead, Robert Jones, Lee Jones, Thomas Mead, Jr. Albert Cole and Algie Crenshaw.
