Bill Baker

Wilburn H. "Bill" Baker, 89, of Gideon, Mo., died Monday, June 30, 2003, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.

Born Sept. 4, 1913, in Atkins, Ark., son of the late Benjamin and Mattie Tyler Baker, he was a farmer and a member of the Assembly of God Church in Malden, Mo.

On March 27, 1937, in Atkins, he married Viola Hutson, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include two daughters, Helen Baker, of Gideon and Patsy Sue Hargrove, of Hot Springs, Ark.; one son, Robert Baker, of Ellsinore, Mo.; two brothers, Harvey Baker, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. and Gwindon Baker, of Santa Rosa, Calif.; one sister, Jan Cradduck, of Clarkton, Mo.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Mervin Baker and two sisters, Adeline Baker and Phronie Tomlinson.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, July 2, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel in Malden with the Rev. Dale Shoup officiating.

Burial was in the Memorial Park Cemetery at Malden.

Sherman Burton

Sherman Arthur Burton, 80, of Arbyrd, Mo., died Tuesday, July 1, 2003, at the Senath Nursing Home in Senath, Mo.

Born March 22, 1923, in Kennett, son of the late Ealey Floyd and Martha Ora Smith Burton, he was a U.S. Army veteran and a factory worker. He was a member of the Hornersville American Legion Post 362 and a member of the Hornersville Baptist Church in Hornersville, Mo.

On April 2, 1982, in Arbyrd, he married Ida R. Brigance, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include five sons, Sherman Dale Burton, of Austin, Ark., Gerald Ray Burton and James Sloan, both of Kennett, Carl Stanley Burton, of Caruthersville, Mo. and Freddie Lee Burton, of Paragould, Ark.; three sisters, Bernice Isom, of Lacota, Mich., Deloris Yount, of Idaho and Mildred McGrew, of Arbyrd; six grandchildren, Brandon, Julie, Janis and Ashley Burton, Misty Cline and Abigail Sloan and one great-granddaughter, Kiersten Renae Cline.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Calvin Van, Weldon and Kenneth Leon Burton and four sisters, Edna Hyde, Beatric Fish, Christine Westmorlan and Loriane Smith.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today, Wednesday, July 2, at the Bradshaw-Emerson Funeral Home in Hornersville.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 3, at the First Baptist Church in Hornersville with the Revs. Doug Clinton and Troy Alley officiating.

Burial will follow at the Cardwell Cemetery in Cardwell, Mo.

Pallbearers are Herman, Paul and David Malone, Troy Danels, Neil Smith and Kenny Guthrie.

Silas Cuff

Silas Cuff, 96, of Kennett, died Monday, June 30, 2003, at National Health Care in Kennett.

Born Sept. 20, 1906, in Waverly, Tenn., son of the late John Henry and Blake Elizabeth Cowart Cuff, he was a member and deacon of the Friendship Baptist Church and a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge.

On Jan. 10, 1934, he married Helen Stumpf, who preceded him in death on Feb. 19, 2002. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, John D., David and Larry Cuff and two sisters, Poad Elizabeth Nipper and Hattie Cuff.

Survivors include one son, Ronald Paul Cuff, of Kennett and one brother, Bobby Lee Cuff, of St. Charles, Mo.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, July 2, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with the Revs. Dale Rickman and Doug Clinton officiating.

Burial was in the Oak Ridge Cemetery at Kennett.

Pallbearers were L.C. Cuff, Henry Gee, Phil and George R. Gurley, Glen Earl Harris and Don Davis.

Charles Morrison, 76, of Rector, Ark., formerly of Clarkton, Mo., died Tuesday, July 1, 2003, at White River Medical Center in Batesville, Ark.

Cora Lee Young, 73, of Bragg City, Mo., died Monday, June 30, 2003, at Holcomb, Mo.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 3, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dale Rickman officiating.

Burial will follow at the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kennett.
