David Battles

David L. Battles, 48, of Bloomfield, formerly of Senath, died Thursday, July 10, 2003 at his residence.

Born Jan. 26, 1955 in Kennett, he was a son of Maxine McGrew of Senath and the late John Battles, he was employed as a Control Room Operator for Associated Electric in New Madrid, Mo., from 1987 until ill health forced his retirement.

On Jan. 23, 1973 he married Debbie Hicks, who survives of the home. Survivors include two sons, Mike Battles of Bloomfield and Levi Battles of St. Louis, Mo.; one daughter, Tammy Pullum of Bloomfield, five brothers, Bill Battles of Richardson, Texas, Glen Battles of Racine, Wis., Larry Battles of Flintville, Tenn., Gary Battles of Garland, Texas and Randy Battles of Kenosha, Wis.; two sisters, Faye Gurley of Kennett and Angelia Battles of Senath; five grandchildren, Austin and Tyler Battles, Rachel and Tommy Pullam, all of Bloomfield and Emily Battles of St. Louis.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry and Kenneth Battles.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Sunday, July 12, 2003 at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. Billy Davis officiating.

Burial will be in the Bloomfield Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Jean Mosley

Jean Bell Mosley, 89, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., died Friday, July 11, 2003, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 13 at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 14, at the funeral home, with Dr. Clayton Smith officiating.

Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.

Ethel Smith

Ethel Smith, 89, of Kennett, died Wednesday, July 9, at her residence.

Born May 29, 1914, in Athens, Ala., she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Hester Pope Martin.

She married Emmett Loyal Smith who preceded her in death July 9, 1964. She was also preceded in head by three sons, Billy, Ronnie and Eddie Smith and two daughters, Jewel Brown and Mary Vane Icenogale.

Surviving are four daughters, Delois Stokenbury of Springdale, Ark., Sussie Whitaker of Lakeland, Fla., Emma Bates and Barbara Kennedy, both of Kennett; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were 10 a.m. Saturday, July 19, at McDaniel Funeral Service Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Dennis Collins officiating.

Burial was in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Kennett.
