Edith Davis

Edith Mae Davis, 85, of Dexter, Mo., formerly of Campbell, Mo. and Bell City, Mo. died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at Cypress Point Healthcare Center in Dexter.

Born May 11, 1917, in Malden, Mo., a daughter of the late Claude, Sr. and Iva Harvey Medlin, she was a homemaker and a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Dexter.

On Nov. 13, 1935, she married Theodore Alexander Davis in Malden. He preceded her in death March 18, 1980.

Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis Mason of Dexter; four sons, Cletis E. Davis of Sebring, Fla., Donald D. Davis of Dexter, and Junior Lee Davis and Theodore Davis, Jr., both of Sikeston; a sister, Zelpha McCain of Marion, Ind.; two half-sister, Dorothy VanderMolen and Geraldine Richter, both of Muskegan, Mich.; three half-brothers, Harold Medlin of Marion, and Claude and David Medlin, both of Dexter; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granchild.

Visitation is 5 p.m. today, Sunday, Dec. 8, at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Dexter.

Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 9, at the Watkins & Sons Chapel with the Revs. Keith Garland and Mark Sparks officiating.

Burial will be in Hagy Cemetery at Dexter.

E.R. Gibbons

E.R. "Tommy" Gibbons, 93, of Leachville, Ark., and formerly of Holcomb, Mo., died Saturday, Nov. 30, in Belle Glade, Fla.

Born Sept. 27, 1909, at Octa, Mo., he was a son of the late Rufus Andrew and Carrie Taylor Gibbons.

He married Ruth Brotherton who preceded him in death. On Nov. 30, 1981, he married Georgia Minirth, who survives.

Other survivors include a step-son, Claude J. Rose of Jackson, Miss.; a step-daughter, Mary Mellein of Watkinsville, Ga.; a brother, G.M. "Peck" Gibbons of Flint, Mich.; two sisters, Altha Mae Masterson of Columbia, Mo. and Betty Johnson of Davenport, Fla.; five step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Bessie B. Redman and Lessie Shipman.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at McDaniel Funeral Service Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Mike Redman officiating.

Burial was in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Kennett.

Pallbearers were Don Watson, Bob Holder, Claude Rose, Sam Watson, Carol Bridges and J.B. Robertson.

Elmer Goddard

Elmer Goddard, 93, of Kennett, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.

Born Sept. 13, 1909, in Bear Creek, Ala., a son of the late George Washington and Lucy Mae Bull Goddard, he was a member of Slicer Street Church of Christ in Kennett.

On Nov. 1, 1941, in O'Keena, Mo., he married Beatrice Lillie Brock who preceded him in death July 29, 1992.

Survivors include a son, Mark Goddard of Kennett; a daughter, Carolyn Calvery of Flippin, Ark.; a sister, Ola Gardner of Michigan; two grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are 2 p.m. today, Sunday, Dec. 8, at McDaniel Funeral Service Chapel in Kennett with Spencer Furby officiating.

Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kennett.

Pallbearers are Leonard Boggs, Gaylon Mullins, Larry McDowell, Tracy Smith, Charles Archer and Rick Gore.

Vivian Joiner

Vivian Joiner, 80, of Cedar Hill, Mo., died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at Cedar Hill Manor in Cedar Hill.

Born Dec. 14, 1921, at Senath, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Rosie Wilkins Smithwick.

She married Lenuel Loal Joiner who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Edmond Smithwick.

Survivors include three children, Loal Lenuel Joiner of Kansas City, Mo.; Charlotte G. Meadows of Valley Park, Mo. and Gary E. Joiner and wife, Janet, of Ellington, Mo.; three sisters, Rosemond Atkerson of St. Charles, Mo., Gail Grow of Michigan and Dorothy Hayes of Dyersburg, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. today, Sunday, Dec. 8, at Chapel Hill Mortuary in High Ridge, Mo. until time of services at 3 p.m.

Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9., in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Kennett.

Effie Luye

Effie Mae Luye, 83, of rural Bragg City, Mo., died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2002, at Pemiscot Memorial Health Systems in Hayti, Mo.

Born May 22, 1919, at Roger Springs, Tenn., daughter of the late John and Edna Antwine Luna Daniel, she was a homemaker.

On Jan. 31, 1948, in Caruthersville, Mo., she married Harold L. Luye who survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Rita Luye of Bragg City and Marcia Thornton of Collierville, Tenn.; a sister, Sue Buechler of Columbia, Mo. and three granddaughters, Keri Harper and Amanda Thornton, both of Collierville and Amber Luye of Bragg City.

She was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Luye.

Funeral services were 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Hayti with Brother Tommy Day officiating.

Burial was in Pemiscot Memorial Gardens at Caruthersville.

Pallbearers were Randy Luye, Richard Luye, Joe Luye, Kevin Barnes, Eric Luye and Brian Luye.
