Calvin Lance

Calvin Lance, commonly known as Frank, was born on April 28, 1924 in Kennett, Mo., to Jake and Millie Lance.

He married Patricia McNicol, on June 29, 1946 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Flint, Mich.

He served as an active member of Holy Redeemer Parish since 1956. He worked 34 years for the Buick Motor Division and retired in 1981. His hobbies included gardening, playing golf and bowling with sons, sons-in-law, grandsons and friends. He was a founding member of the Dee Cramer Golf League. Lance was a devoted family man to his wife, four children 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren..

He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; four children, Larry Lance and wife, Bethany, of Nashville, Tenn., Peggy Minzey and husband, Don, of Grand Blanc, Dianne Woolman and husband, Gary, of Davison and John Lance and wife, Shelley, of Fenton; 11 grandchildren, Stefanie and Megan Lance, Brian Minzey, Brandy Chittle, Sarah Minzey, Kenneth and Jason Minzey, Brad, Tim and Jeff Woolman and Amber Lance; five great-grandchildren, Blake and Dylan Minzey and Jack, Jacob and Jillian Chittle; two sisters, Ruth Carnell and Genevia Rogers, of Kennett; two brothers-in-law, Jack and Whelton McNicol and two sisters-in-law, Medrith Lance and Murial McNicol.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Frankie; seven brothers, Vernie, Bud, Clarence, Melvin, Chester, Joe and Lester and two sisters, Cordie and Gertrude.

Funeral Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. today, Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Father Gary McInnis officiating.

Burial was in the New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation was 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 6 and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, April 7, at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.

A Rosary was held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Abby Park, Autism Society of Michigan, Michigan Society for the Deaf or for Masses.
