Gov. Nixon proposes softening colleges' budget cut

Jay Nixon said Tuesday that he wants to soften a proposed budget cut to the state's colleges and universities by tapping money from a possible legal settlement with some of the nation's largest mortgage lenders. BERNIE, Mo. -- The Hayti Indians boys basketball team ran into a buzzsaw when it visited the state-ranked Bernie Mules Tuesday night. School bond issue passes with 73% vote

Malden School's bond issue requesting the restructure of loans passed with approximately 73% voter approval. During November's election, the issue failed by only a small majority and the Malden R1 School Board voted to once again list it on the ballot. While most elections held in the state require a simple majority to pass, this is not true for school district bond issues. In the November election, a 66.67% majority was required. The vote fell short at 65.2%...
