Welch steps down as Kennett football coachPosted Tuesday, November 11, 2008, at 10:45 PM
Kennett head football coach Kirk Welch has resigned after four years leading the Tribe, sources report.
Welch compiled a 17-22 record in his four years at Kennett, including 6-4 records in each of the last two seasons -- the Tribe's first two winning seasons since 2000. Before coming to Kennett, Welch was the head coach at Hayti in 2004, leading the team to a 5-5 record, and was the offensive coordinator at Greenwood High School in western Arkansas from 2001-2003, helping the Bulldogs reach the playoffs all three seasons. In his four years at Kennett, Welch coached several outstanding athletes, including current Missouri State University sophomore Marco Finley, running back/linebacker Demetrius Childress, defensive lineman Tyler Gentry and wide receiver Jarvis Finley. Welch also coached quarterback Blake Parr, who passed for a school record 2,220 yards this season and has drawn attention from several Division I schools. On Welch's watch, the Tribe also recorded victories over state-ranked Hayti back in September and also defeated Sikeston last fall for the first time since 2000. Welch is expected to make a statement later this week. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

We all know what happened...the board thought Kennett should have won the Show-Me Bowl, so he was forced out. Coach Welch...you did a good job. Anywhere you go will be better than Kennett.
Love that sports page. Guess there haven't been any games in Kennett played since the end of October? Weird.
Also assume that explains why there has not been anything else reported on the Kennett football coach?
Coming into town for Thanksgiving later today. Hope time is not standing still!!!!!
As for Coach Welch, good question. Let's just say everything is quite up in the air for the moment...
