'It's good to be back'

Posted Thursday, October 9, 2008, at 12:58 AM

It's good to be back.

As many of you know, I had a car accident Fourth of July weekend. I totaled my car, my camera gear and nearly myself -- I spent around three weeks total in the hospital and to be honest, I'm still recovering, which is why you haven't seen me at as many games this fall.

Still, there is a lot going on the world of sports, not the least of which are a pair of undefeated football teams.

First of all, the Kennett Indians are off to a 6-0 start for the first time since 1986, which also happens to be the last time the Tribe made the playoffs.

Kennett will get its sternest test of the year on Friday night when it hosts Sikeston. The Bulldogs are much improved over recent years and feature a top-flight running back (Eli Jackson), a good quarterback (Charlie Bohannon) and a pair of good receivers in Jordan Williams and Niquavious Dixon.

Sikeston's offense is averaging 36 points per game and looks to provide a strong test to a Kennett defense that has struggled at times.

However, Kennett's most important stretch of games start the next week with the opening of Class 3, District 1 play. With MSHSAA taking two teams from each district this season, this might be the year the Indians finally return to the postseason.

On the other side of the Mississippi, the Tennessee Titans are 5-0 -- the best record in the National Football League and the team's best start in its 49-year history.

In a year where the best of the AFC -- Indianapolis, New England, Jacksonville and San Diego -- have had their problems, the Titans have got it done with strong defense and a solid offense led by Rookie of the Year contender Chris Johnson.

Could a trip to Tampa for Super Bowl XLIII be in the future for the Titans? Stay tuned...

BTW, you can talk bad about my Chiefs all you want, I can't even defend them right now. lol

I just wonder why with all the coaches fired this year, why no one on TV mentions anything about Herm, Carl, or even Clark Hunt about whats going down in KC. I bet Lamar is rolling in his grave right now.
