My NFC and AFC Conference Championship picks

Posted Friday, January 18, 2008, at 3:46 AM

This Sunday, two teams will take the final step in their quest to reach Super Bowl XLII. And for the first time in 35 years, one team will enter the conference finals undefeated. But will the New England Patriots stay undefeated? Here are my thought on Sunday's matchups:

AFC: San Diego at New England: These two teams met week 2 at New England, with the Patriots coming away with a resounding 38-14 win.

However, things have changed since then, as the Chargers have won 12 out of 14 and seem to be better than they were week 2. But can they beat the Patriots?

Can they? Yes -- the Eagles and Ravens proved that the Pats can be beat. But will they? No.

Buhler's pick: Patriots.

NFC: New York Giants at Green Bay: Just like the Chargers and Patriots, these two teams met week 2 at the Meadowlands in New Jersey, and the Packers took a resounding 35-13 win.

But the Giants play better on the road, as nine straight road wins attest to. And New York did dismiss the Cowboys last week, so it's possible the giants could win and get a Super Bowl rematch with New England.

I think this game will be interesting, and that the Giants could pull it out. However, it's hard to go against Brett Favre and the Packers at home this late in January.

Buhler's pick: Packers.
