Week 5 football picks

Posted Friday, September 28, 2007, at 4:13 AM

Nearly halfway through the season, I have a .950 winning percentage (19-for-20) at picking high school games. Not that it's that hard -- most of our games this season have had a clear favorite, so I'm lauding myself too much. Still, without further ado, here's Buhler's picks for week 5.

Malden at Dexter: The Green Wave got their first win of the season last week with a 27-0 win over Portageville, but the Bearcats are no Portageville and should be fired up after a 42-7 whipping at Poplar Bluff.
Dexter has dominated this series the last several years and that looks to continue.
Buhler's pick: Dexter.

Hayti at Charleston: The Charleston Bluejays finally play their home opener tonight after playing four straight on the road to open the season. However, it may not be a very happy homecoming with Hayti coming to town.
The Indians are 4-0, state-ranked and had little trouble with a Kennett team that beat Charleston earlier.
Buhler's pick: Hayti.

NMCC at Caruthersville: After being pounded at Poplar Bluff week, NMCC came home last week and dominated the second half to rout Charleston.
On the other side, Caruthersville has yet to win a game this season -- or even play an opponent closer than 14 points.
Buhler's pick: NMCC.

North County at Poplar Bluff: It's rivalry night at Poplar Bluff's Morrow Stadium where the Mules host the Bearcats. Last year, Dexter beat Poplar Bluff 10-7 in overtime to snap a 16-year losing streak to the Mules, but that was last year. Bluff has looked good in all three of its games this season, including a 32-12 whipping of NMCC last week.
Buhler's pick: Poplar Bluff.

And last but not least...

Portageville at Kennett: Portageville has struggled for two years in a row, going 0-9 last season and 0-4 this season. And injuries have made it even worse for the Bulldogs.
On the other side, Kennett is off to its best start since 2002 and is coming off of its best offensive performance of the season last week at East Prairie.
The Tribe won this game 42-0 last year at Portageville and could do so again this year...
Buhler's pick: Kennett.

And for my NFL picks on the Rams and Chiefs (the Titans are off this week), here goes...

Rams at Cowboys: And just when the Rams thought it couldn't get any worse, Steven Jackson goes out with an injury. That's bad news for any team to lose its franchise running back, especially one that is 0-3 and facing a Super Bowl contender on the road...
Buhler's pick: Cowboys.

Chiefs at Chargers: The Chiefs finally got into the win column last week with a 13-10 come-from-behind win against Minnesota. Meanwhile, the Chargers lost to the Packers 31-24 and are 1-2 on the year.
The 1-2 records are about the main thing these teams have in common. Kansas City still struggles to score points and San Diego is much better than it has looked in 2007.
Buhler's pick: Chargers.

I agree with your Rams & Cowboys pick and not because of Jackson. Bulger has some cracked ribs and I believe a knee problem and your QB has to be on top of his game these days, as Bulger has lost something, I dont know what it is, but he is not very emotional about it.

With a tough battle next sunday with Dallas the Rams could fall to 0-4. If Bulger doesn't show sum kind of emotion, then thier done. It's going to be hard to climb out of a 1-3 record and get into the playoffs.

As for the Chiefs, I've watched every game this year. If you have only seen highlights on espn or NFLNetwork then you have not seen the true aspect of these games.

I feel the Chiefs will beat the Chargers in SD. With the Bolts weak secondary the Chiefs will gain from Kennison back and the new rookie Bowe. Now that everyone knows Bowe can jump and take the ball away from the defender, they will have to cover him and Kennison, pulling out the 9th man in the box and allowing LJ to run rampant.

The one thing that no one knows, or should I say "Talk About" is that Haurd was 20-29 1 TD 0 INT 250+ yards and a 100.something passer rating

Just my thought

Did I mention the Chiefs D is ranked 4th in the NFL
