Fisher signs extension through 2011 and another note or two

Posted Tuesday, September 18, 2007, at 4:38 AM

After months of negotiations and speculation, the Tennessee Titans finally signed longtime coach Jeff Fisher to a contract extension through 2011, the Associated Press reported Monday.

"Never at any time was I of the opinion it was not going to get done," Fisher told the Associated Press. "What was most important to me was the team and the players and winning games."

Fisher, who has coached the team since November 1994 (when the team was still the Houston Oilers), coached his 200th regular-season game Sunday, a 22-20 loss to the Colts. During his tenure with the Oilers-Titans, he has won 106 regular-season games and led the team to four playoff berths and the AFC championship in 1999, a season that saw Tennessee lose 23-16 to the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXIV.

More quotables from Sunday: "I'm taking our guy over him any day. Peyton has a whole bunch of years over V, but I feel like this is his second year in the league and he's doing way more than [Peyton Manning] did his second year in the league." -- Bo Scaife, Titans' tight end on Vince Young.

"That's a good feeling any time you get Peyton down is good because he is a guy that avoids a lot of hits and gets rid of the ball really quick. So when you get sack, you've got to cherish those." -- Titans' defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, who had one of the Titans' two sacks against Manning Sunday.

"The down years of the Titans are over with. We are going to come out here and we're going to play. We've got a lot of heart and we'll go toe-to-toe with anybody, even the world champs." -- Haynesworth on the Titans' effort against the Colts.

Finally. I was beginning to wonder whether this was ever going to get done. Now lets concentrate on getting to the playoffs. Go Titans!
