Football picks: Week 3

After two weeks, I'm 10-for-10 in my high school football picks. Not that I'm bragging -- the first two week's worth of games weren't hard to call.
That's not the case tonight, so without further ado, here's Buhler's picks for week 3.
Malden at Thayer: The Green Wave ran roughshod over Thayer last year in a 53-20 rout, but Malden has scored just one offensive touchdown this season and the Bobcats are fresh off a big win over Houston
Caruthersville at Cardinal Ritter: The Tigers are 0-2 for the first time since Kendrickus Reed was in eighth grade and have had more than their share of struggles. Cardinal Ritter is 1-1 and beat Kennedy 46-0 last week.
NMCC at Poplar Bluff: The Mules face their third straight ranked opponent tonight when they host New Madrid. Bluff is 0-2 but has played well against the best Missouri and Arkansas have to offer in a pair of relatively close losses. NMCC is 2-0 and among the area's best but has yet to be tested.
Sikeston at Dexter: Surprise! After years of struggling, Sikeston comes into tonight 2-0, while Dexter is 0-2 and has given up 72 points in 6 1/2 quarters of play this season.
And last but not least...
Kennett at Hayti: The 51st "Battle of the Indians" features a pair of undefeated teams for the first time in recent memory. Hayti is ranked fifth in Class 1 after thrashing East Prairie and Hayti, while Kennett is off to its best start in five years.
And remember folks, these are just my predictions. I fully expect to miss at least one or two games this week...
And for my NFL picks on the Rams, Chiefs and Titans, here goes...
49ers at Rams: The Rams lost All-Pro tackle Orlando Pace for the season last week against Carolina, and seemed totally flat afterwards. The Niners are one of the league's rising teams and would like to make St. Louis even flatter.
Chiefs at Bears: In a battle of teams who struggled offensively in opening week losses, the Bears have perhaps the league's best defense, while the Chiefs are on the road for the second straight week.
Colts at Titans: The last time these two teams met, Rob Bironas nailed a 60-yard field goal in the final seconds to seal a 20-17 victory, and both games between the teams in '06 were decided by a total of four points. Don't be surprised if that happens again. |
