NFL week 1 wrapup

After 16 games over a total of five days, the first week of the 2007 NFL season has ended.
Now, for some general observations from me: Having said that, here is a look at the three "local" NFL teams: St. Louis Rams: Things were going okay for the Rams until All-Pro tackle Orlando Pace left the game right before halftime with yet another season-ending injury. After that, St. Louis looked horrible, being outscored 20-3 in the second half. To make matters worse, Stephen Jackson, who was touted for NFL stardom entering the season, had a dud of a day, carrying for just 58 yards and fumbling twice. While it is too soon to say that Rams' season is going to be a bust, the opening day loss and flat offense without Pace is not a good sign. It might not be too early for me to start planning how to eat crow after saying last week that this looked like the best Rams team since the Super Bowl years. Kansas City Chiefs: To many people's surprise, I picked the Chiefs to lose to Houston in Sunday's opener. But even I was surprised Kansas City looked as bad as it did. The offense never found the end zone Sunday, and workhorse running back Larry Johnson ran just 10 times for 43 yards. Damon Huard threw two interceptions. The news gets worse, Chiefs fans: Kansas City heads to Soldier Field Sunday afternoon to take on the Chicago Bears. While the Bears' offense looked about as bad as the Chiefs Sunday, Chicago's defense was strong again. I still think it's going to be a long year at Arrowhead. Tennessee Titans: With several new faces at key positions, the Titans entered Sunday's opener against the Jaguars with several questions -- and doubts -- about how they would do this year. After a 13-10 win at Jacksonville, two of those questions -- about the running game and run defense -- look to be answered. Tennessee ran for 282 yards -- the most the Jaguars have ever allowed to an opponent -- and Chris Brown looked like the Chris Brown of 2004 after running for 175 yards on 19 carries. Also, the run defense limited Jacksonville to just 72 yards rushing -- pretty impressive considering the D had to shut down perhaps the NFL's best 1-2 rushing punch in Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew. The schedule isn't kind to the Titans the next two weeks with Indianapolis coming to town and a trip to New Orleans after that. But in the NFL, anything can happen on any given day... Chris Brown played great this past week against the Jaguars. It was good to see the Titans running the ball again like they use to. Really looking forward to this weeks game against the dolts. GO TITANS!
