More on the volleyball Dandy Dozen
Posted Friday, December 4, at 10:45 AM The three-way rivalry between Kennett, Senath-Hornersville and South Pemiscot was arguably one of the best this season. Two of the three schools -- South Pemiscot and Senath-Hornersville -- won district titles, while Kennett won the Bootheel Conference Tournament title and shared the league's regular season title with the other two schools...
Tribal thoughts Despite a three-game losing streak, don't lose heart: the Kennett Indians are headed in the right direction on the football field. While losing never feels good, Kennett (1-3) and head coach Kenneth Riedinger are doing the right things to turn around a program that has not made the playoffs in 23 years...
More on the Dandy Dozen Choosing this year's Dandy Dozen Baseball Team and our players of the year was not easy. While there may not have been a Stephen Strasburg (No. 1 pick in the MLB Draft by the Washington Nationals) here in the Bootheel, there were several talented players who had strong credentials for Player of the Year...
Former Caruthersville standout Matt Palmer finds his niche with Angels After seven seasons of toiling in the minors, former Caruthersville native Matt Palmer may have found his groove in the majors. Palmer outpitched New York Yankees ace C.C. Sabathia to lead the Los Angeles Angels to an 8-4 win at Yankee Stadium Saturday night...
Former Hayti and Mizzou star Moore to Falcons William Moore is headed to Atlanta. Moore, a key part of four straight Mizzou Tigers bowl teams and on three outstanding Hayti High school football teams, was taken in the second round of the NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons Saturday evening. Moore, a 6-foot-1, 230-pound safety, recorded 11 interceptions in his college career and is regarded by many as having the potential to become a starter in the NFL...

You've come a long way, ladies The Kennett Lady Indians have come a long, long way. After back-to-back four-win seasons -- including an 0-13 start last year -- the Lady Tribe enters tonight's game against New Madrid County Central in search of its 15th win of the year. And the good times may be just beginning...
Sikeston-SCC: Wow what a game! Wednesday's game between Sikeston and Scott County Central was arguably the most hyped basketball game in southeast Missouri in recent memory -- perhaps ever. That said, the game lived up to the hype. In addition to what we have in today's paper and on our web site, I would like to add a few thoughts of my own about Wednesday's contest...

Parr passed for 2,220 yards and 21 touchdowns as a senior at Kennett, earning all-conference honors in the SEMO Central and leading the Tribe to back-to-back 6-4 finishes, Kennett's first consecutive winning seasons since 1999-2000...
Weathering the storm Usually I write about sports, but there's not much happening in the sports world since the Bootheel is recovering from THE ice storm of the 21st century. One of my friends and colleagues asked me last night how I was doing, and I said, "Surviving." It's different being without electricity, any stores or restautants open and no gasoline -- and in my case, not staying in my own house...
Kennett officially looking for a football coach The search for Kennett's next high school football coach has officially begun. Career over for Caruthers I spoke with Kennett boys basketball coach Jim Vaughan Tuesday night, and he informed me that after another round of tests, Tribe sophomore Randrick Caruthers does indeed have hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and will not be able to play basketball again...
Kennett grabs third seed at Bloomfield The Kennett Indians earned the No. 3 seed at the Bloomfield Christmas Tournament that was seeded over the weekend, the Tribe's highest seed at the annual tourney in recent years. Kennett likely earned the third seed on the strength of a strong performance at the Potosi Invitational -- where the Indians finished third -- and on the strength of a strong returning group...
What's the latest on the KHS football job? That is a good question. After Kirk Welch resigned as Kennett's head football coach last month, the schoolboard voted not to accept the resignation. So what does this all mean? First of all, I don't believe Welch will be returning. I'm not 100 percent sure how it will all play out, but I am 100 percent sure we will have a new football coach at Kennett next fall...
