Community Connection -- Rumors are rampant!

Retail rumors are running rampant! In the last few days much talk has circulated about the possibility of a retailer or two deciding to locate in Kennett. The good news is that several developers, or representatives of developers are indeed considering Kennett for retail expansion. We have several sites conducive to retail development, including some vacant commercial properties along our major thoroughfares. As we've discussed, we should always be prepared for the times when "company" visits.
We should also be prepared to expect that these folks may want some confidentiality. Any smart business person would not want a possible competitor within the region to know his or her every move. While we can be cautiously optimistic that retailers consider Kennett to be a good site for expansion, no deal is done until it is done. Many a deal is lost because of too much hype.
So, let's continue to present ourselves well and let the world know that we are open for business. HEY, WORLD -- WE'RE OPEN FOR BUSINESS! What businesses would you like to see in Kennett? Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

As promised, info on the outdoor fest:
The first annual SEMO Outdoor Festival will be held on Saturday, Nov. 3 at the American Legion Building & Fairgrounds.
We will have youth and adult Team Meat Duck Calling contests, youth and adult Turkey Calling contests, Benelli shooting exhibition, field dog demostrations, and much more. We will hold drawing that day for a 2007 400 Automatic 4WD Artic Cat sponsored by Heartland Auto & ATV.
We have a few vendor spots available for hunting-related businesses. We also have event and stage sponsorships available. Please contact the Chamber for more info. This will be a great event!
Jan, I truly enjoy your blog! Very informative and straight-forward.
I also love the idea of the SEMO outdoor festival! Such a great event for the area. I think that it will do extremely well and many people will be able to enjoy it. Keep up the great work, you really are an inspiring lady!
Kennett, I respond now only out of courtesy. I have neither the time, energy or desire to continue to respond to your negative barbs. You evidently have a personal issue with me and since you remain annonymous and I do not, this is an exercise in futility. Please use your considerable interest in community affairs in a more beneficial manner.
I think the outdoor festival is a great idea.I love the outdoors!I think this will and should be an annual event. Thanks for this wonderful idea!!!
I would like to see a Chick-Filet or an Arbys move to Kennett
I would like to see a nice restaurant in Kennett with a romantic, well at least somewhat romantic, atmosphere. I travel there from time to time and when I do food choice is limited!
A Hooters restaurant would be nice too
Hey, everyone - my slow response was due to a computer glich at our office. Thanks for the ideas and the support. Dossman, we are really looking forward to the Outdoor Festival. The DDD is providing advertisement in all of their regional affiliates, so word should be spreading soon.
kn_caldwell, have you tried Sissy's Bella Cuisine? Good food, with a nice atmosphere.
Polebarnbuilder, maybe Arby's, maybe Chick-Filet - Hooter's, well now....
I would love to see a Target, a Fantastic Sam's or Regis Salon, and maybe a Buffalo Wild Wings or White Castle? I would also love to see a climate controlled storage facility, such as StorageUSA. Thanks!
RE: What businesses would you like to see in Kennett?
How about businesses or industries for all seasons (economic seasons, that is) to weather the economic cycles. When the dollar is weak (as it is currently), exports are high, so, manufacturing does well. When the dollar is strong, service industries ( and certain retail) tend to do well.
With the newly four-laned US 412, distribution centers become a viable option.
Maybe a skating rink, or a Chuckey Cheese. Something for the kids to do.
