Observations - Obama and Farrakhan

The Senator from Illinois attempting to claim the Democratic Presidential nomination picked up an endorsement he might rather not have. In Chicago recently Louis Farrakhan said that Barack Obama is the "hope of the entire world."

During the same speech in which Farrakhan said that he also said, "A black man with a white mother became a savior to us," referring to the mother of Fard Muhammad, the founder of the Nation of Islam.

Farrakhan has also said things like Judaism is a "gutter religion" and has suggested that crack cocaine might have been a CIA plot to enslave blacks [his words not mine].

Apparently, Obama has expressed objections to such Farrakhan assertions, but I have to think a candidate who was Caucasian would have to do much more than simply express objections to those kinds of statements if they came from a white extremist. A Caucasian candidate would have to condemn such statements and completely distance himself/herself from the person who said it.

I have researched to attempt to find where Obama has condemned such remarks made by Farrakhan, but I cannot find them. Other than basically saying that he does not agree with Farrakhan, he says nothing.

I recall the uproar caused by Rush Limbaugh's comments about a NFL quarterback. I recall the uproar caused by Imus's remarks about a girls' basketball team. Neither of those men should have made those remarks. Both were condemned, however, for doing so and each ended up being taken off television programs.

If Obama refuses to condemn Farrakhan for his inappropriate remarks, is he being held to a different standard? I think so. What do you think?

Same old thing, what is good for some can't be good for others unless you want to be concidered a racist. Any more, there are several groups of individuals who can use the racist/bias card to get away with anything they want. Two of the worst racists I know are Rev. J. Jackson and Al Sharpton and these two men can get away with saying anything they want but let another ethnic group do it and all hell breaks loose. Nothing is going to be done about it and all I hope for is that I can continue living and taking care of my family in a place were their comments don't matter much. I think I will quit chatting about this subject while I am still in a good frame of mind this morning.

It's scary to think that we might possibly elect someone as our president that we know very little about.

Obama completely repudiated Farrahkan in a televised "debate" with Hilary Clinton subsequent to this story.

If you look back into the history of this country more than a few of our elected Presidents and officials have been racists. They used it to get elected. So I agree whats good for some can not be good for others unless you want to be CALLED a racist. Same old same old. I think half of the problem is not race but greed. Everyone is out for themselves. I am glad that in my lifetime I was able to see a woman and a person of color be able to run for one of the most powerful positions in the world. There is something wrong when a few people can have billions and billions of dollars and streets over children are dying from hungar and our older generations are living on the streets. The number one American dream used to be to own a home and if you did acheive that now the dream is to stay it until your next paycheck. People used to loose theirs homes for trying to live above their means now you can loose your home for as little as $1000 owed (YOUR ELECTRIC BILL IN A COLD CLIMATE). GREED in Government. It stinks.
