Observations -- Dependent or Purposeful?

I read with interest recent research that suggests that a purposeful personality may somehow protect the brain from Alzheimer's disease.

Reading about the research made me think of the mind set and habits that dependent people appear to develop. I am NOT talking about Alzheimer's patients here, but about people who become dependent upon government subsidies - all kinds of people and groups, not just welfare recipients.

An individual dependent upon government assistance appears to lose all sort of motivation to achieve and expects more and more to be given to him. It's like a cancer. It feeds upon itself and spreads to eventually consume a person.

Personally, I wonder what our nation might become as larger numbers of people become dependent upon government subsidies. I fear that this mindset will consume our population, and in the near future our free enterprise society and market-driven system may become prey to it.

Rather than developing a population more dependent and less purposeful, should we not make every effort to develop a population more and more purposeful?

Powerful words, Jack. Maybe the real problem starts way before the person gives up and goes looking for assistance. Maybe what we need to do, Jack, is to help children as they are coming up so they feel they are worth something in this world and when they get big, they won't be so likely to give up. It may not work for all, but it may work for some. Remember the "starfish washed up on the beach" story?

The government continues to ever increasingly tax the working and productive taxpayers, to support their parasitic non working drones.

Any able bodied and mentally capable person whom depends upon the government for their needs, is in for one Hades of a disappointment.

Any government that promises to do all for the people, is also in a position to do anything to the people.

This government had best remember, and remember well, when without end, they rob Peter to pay Paul, sooner or later, Peter is going to become very, very, urinated.
