Observations -- Distraction or motivation?

At the Kennett School Board meeting this week members and administration discussed the Kennett High School Homecoming.
Apparently, one concerned citizen had heard that the reason the administration rescheduled the Homecoming from Oct. 26 to Oct. 5 was because the high school football coaches thought the team would be distracted by all the Homecoming activities and, therefore, not able to concentrate on the game. That resident addressed the board and expressed confusion about that thought, asking the Board to re-establish Homecoming for Oct. 5. I think that citizen was right to be confused. When I participated in high school sports, Homecoming was a big deal and motivated our team to perform better. In the end, the Board stuck to the original Oct. 26 date. What do you think? Should the football team be motivated by the Homecoming activities or distracted by them? Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

homecoming game was always a game we wanted to win!
Homecoming is a student event and not simply a football event. The priority should be given to the date that best suits the needs/desires of the students. And, the football players should be motivated by the excitement not distracted by it!
Homecoming? Shouldn't it be about those away from home who might have a chance of coming home to see a game?
homecoming and homecoming parade have always been a big highlight not just for the highschool but for the whole community.
I thought that the homecoming game was always something the team really wanted to win. I never thought they were distracted from that- always thought that was their priority. Could be wrong though.
