You just got Barack'd!

I never write about politics. Well, in my blogs or personal pieces anyway. I did once, it was regarding a certain Kennedy who was flirting with the idea of digging her heels into a political seat. But, that never happened... and it only caught my attention because since watching Oliver Stone's JFK and a White House Christmas special with Jackie O, I'm obsessed with the Kennedy's. Moving on...

In his State of the Union address, President Barack Obama recognized openly that "Change has not come fast enough," for America.

He also acknowledged that his administration had found itself dealing with a few setbacks, perhaps self-inflicted injuries, that found their own place in the pile of "unfulfilled promises made by us." (my quote) ;) But he also challenged Republicans- boxed them in a little with his comments regarding issues like where they stood on those who took from the bailout not repaying their loans. Ummm.... Really?!

There was a tension in the air during the first portion of his speech that certainly did not suggest bi-partisanship. However, as Obama continued with his address he was able to rouse a few Republicans out of their seats, to a stand even, when he spoke of certain matters.

All of the hot button issues we expected him to talk about, he did. But did he deliver? Real answers? Something we can sink our fangs into? Anything that satisfied our starving hunger for "Change."

He promises us again that this war will be ending, that our troops will come home, "By the end of his term." (his quote)

He talked about gays in the military and said they should be allowed to serve their country (Because "its the right thing to do")... and mentioned we captured or killed more al-Qaida terrorists in 2009 than the previous year. (A national security success?)

Where are we in this fight America? Obama's in the center of the ring telling us "I don't quit!" Republicans are chanting under their breath "Throw in the towel..."

As hard as it may be, as uncomfortable and contentious as the debates may be, it's time to get serious about fixing the problems that are hampering our growth," he says.

Is he a poet that will mesmerize us like Nina Simone's "I put a spell on you?" (I swear I hear that song in the back of my head when I hear and watch him speak...) Have many of us, perhaps been "Punk'd," "Bewitched," ( No, wait... "Barack'd!" ) into voting for him, supporting him?

Sitting on the couch last night, watching the State of the Union, I couldn't help but picture the screen blanking out to static, then returning with Ashton Kutcher standing there in a ridiculous looking trucker hat, laughing and screaming through a megaphone: You just got Barack'd!

Say it ain't so, O?!
