You just got Barack'd!Posted Thursday, January 28, 2010, at 10:48 AM
In his State of the Union address, President Barack Obama recognized openly that "Change has not come fast enough," for America. He also acknowledged that his administration had found itself dealing with a few setbacks, perhaps self-inflicted injuries, that found their own place in the pile of "unfulfilled promises made by us." (my quote) ;) But he also challenged Republicans- boxed them in a little with his comments regarding issues like where they stood on those who took from the bailout not repaying their loans. Ummm.... Really?! There was a tension in the air during the first portion of his speech that certainly did not suggest bi-partisanship. However, as Obama continued with his address he was able to rouse a few Republicans out of their seats, to a stand even, when he spoke of certain matters. All of the hot button issues we expected him to talk about, he did. But did he deliver? Real answers? Something we can sink our fangs into? Anything that satisfied our starving hunger for "Change." He promises us again that this war will be ending, that our troops will come home, "By the end of his term." (his quote) He talked about gays in the military and said they should be allowed to serve their country (Because "its the right thing to do")... and mentioned we captured or killed more al-Qaida terrorists in 2009 than the previous year. (A national security success?) Where are we in this fight America? Obama's in the center of the ring telling us "I don't quit!" Republicans are chanting under their breath "Throw in the towel..." As hard as it may be, as uncomfortable and contentious as the debates may be, it's time to get serious about fixing the problems that are hampering our growth," he says. Is he a poet that will mesmerize us like Nina Simone's "I put a spell on you?" (I swear I hear that song in the back of my head when I hear and watch him speak...) Have many of us, perhaps been "Punk'd," "Bewitched," ( No, wait... "Barack'd!" ) into voting for him, supporting him? Sitting on the couch last night, watching the State of the Union, I couldn't help but picture the screen blanking out to static, then returning with Ashton Kutcher standing there in a ridiculous looking trucker hat, laughing and screaming through a megaphone: You just got Barack'd! Deanna,
You are absolutely correct. Not 'changing' fast enough. He's having Congress pass bills before they even have time to read them. This guy is scary, I'm glad America is finally waking up to this guy's mouth. He's a talking head. A puppet, I can't wait until all the Republicans take alot of the Democrat's seats, and we have gridlock in Congress, then, we'll see how well 'The Obamanation' does w/ Bipartisanship then. Maybe he'll stop blaming G.W. for his problems. Nah, that'll never happen, too Narcissistic Personality Disorder for that. He believes that his mere words will 'change' the world
This mess just didn't happen overnight.
If this blog were on the Statesman site, I think we know how it would go, don't we, Dexterite?
However, whichever way it does go, I applaud you, Deanna, for starting a dialogue.
I don't really understand why these discussions don't catch hold on this website. Except for the heated debate over the Walmart incident, there hasn't been much going on.
gl, I suppose folks in Dunklin County don't read their own newspaper on line. My friends in Florida now used to reside in Kennett and I try to keep them abreast of the latest news. (And obits)
Well that statement only applies to those who voted for the con-artist. I didnt vote for that man nor did I vote for the other. I was really hoping Mike Huckabee was goin tomake it onto the ballot. But, since he didnt, I would not vote for two people that full of LIES.......but oh well......
Deanna, good job in letting people know what they got when they believed in or just because of what he is when they voted this guy in office. I have a lot of family spread over this country who voted for this "president", (notice I didn't capitalize), who are devistated at what he has and is planning to do to this great NATION of OURS, THE PEOPLE.
