Bailouts Gone Wild?Posted Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at 1:05 PM
While hard-working Americans are living paycheck to paycheck, breaking into their piggy banks to make ends meet, adult entertainment moguls Larry Flynt and Joe Francis make a mockery out of Congress and its bailout initiatives by asking for $5 million to support the continuation of porn and sex in America.
"Adult entertainment moguls Larry Flynt and Joe Francis are asking for a $5 billion bailout from the government, claiming the pornography industry is on the decline.
Flynt, founder of the porn magazine Hustler, and Francis, 'Girls Gone Wild' producer, feel that they should be granted a portion of the recent $700 billion package by President George W. Bush to help the economy back on its feet.
They said that they deserve the same consideration that the government is willing to give other businesses.
Flynt said in a statement, "With all this economic misery and people losing all that money, sex is the farthest thing from their mind. It's time for Congress to rejuvenate the sexual appetite of America.'"(Ann Lu/AllHeadlineNews.Com) Ok, let me think of how I can say this without getting myself into trouble. Are you freaking' kidding me! The last thing I want to hear as an American taxpayer during an economic crisis such as this, is someone like Flynt or Francis moaning and groaning (no pun intended) about their coming up short. Realistically, I don't see any chance of the U.S. Congress fronting these two goons the funds they are requesting. Perhaps its all for the sake of shock and awe? What do you think? Is Flynt and Francis' talk of hard times all just a big joke for publicity purposes, or do you think they are truly vying for a handout from the government? When the bailout started, did they actually think it could be confined to just a few?
I recall reading of an incident right after President Lincoln first took office. There was a long line of political backers etc outside in the hall seeking government positions or favors, an aide went into Lincoln's office and found him with his head in his hands and very despondent. The aide asked what the problem was? Lincoln replied, too many pigs and not enough teats.
Our founding fathers gave stern warning against opening up the public treasury for doling out to the private sector, as it would be a recipe for disaster.
Free market forces are self correcting, such corrections are often harsh, painful and never pleasant. But when the government steps in with their not so subtle artifices, things may be made easier for some in the short term. But in the end, such government tactics only instigates and makes worse the inevitable result, an inflationary or deflationary depression. (chicken or the egg, one only fosters the other)
Roosevelt took a bad recession and turned it into a bad depression. Now Bush once having started it, seems Obama is Hades bent on repeating the same Roosevelt scenario from the 1930s.
1. They do not need the bailout, I think the whole thing was a mistake to begin with.
2. The reason they may think they need the bailout is because of the down slide of the magazines.
3. Nobody needs to buy the magazines anymore because all you have to do is turn on the tv.
With cable and satilite you have more porn then you can shake a stick at. Even commercials think scantly clad women sales more. I find it repulsive and degrading to all woman. Thank goodness my husband has never disrespected me nor degraded me by purchasing any of those magz
That bail out cost us 165 thousand retirerment dollars still unrecovered, an it looks like Obama is going to cost me even more. Yeppie at this rate retirerment should be around 75 years of age.
Oh Come Jesus Come!!
This whole bailout mess can be compared to the tidal mechanics of a tsunami. The tide first rapidly goes out, (government created mess=recession deflation) the tide then rushes back in (massive infusion of government money into private sector=hyper inflation) with a vengeance and destroys all within it's path.
Obama's plan has been tried several times in the past, it did not work then, and it will not work now. if we are truly a free market society, then let the free market forces do the correction and it will be better for all in the end.
We learn from history, that we do not learn from history.
My thoughts on the percentage these guys are reporting as a decrease or loss in DVD and magazine sales are not because the American people have a lack of sexual appetite, rather, most people have realized that they can feed their adult entertainment needs for FREE, via the Internet. Why spend money on DVD's and such when you can go online and download all the content you want at no cost... well, except for your pride maybe.
Either way, I think it is disgusting that Larry Flynt and Joe Francis have the audacity to request 5 million (even as a joke or for publicity). I'm not laughing!
