Vote √Yes for the Patriotic Retirement Plan...Posted Monday, February 15, at 2:04 PM Busy, busy, busy, bees... that's what we all seem to be the office/hive this week. I am sure that as the week rolls on, I will find something that sparks my interest enough to write about in this blog. For now, I thought I would share something that another editor with our group forwarded me earlier today. Whether it is just for a laugh, or to make you think outside the box, I hope you enjoy it...
What is wrong with our public education systems today? Or would the question be better posed if I asked, "What isn't wrong with our schools today?" I honestly appreciate our educators and their willingness and abilities in teaching our children, however, some recent education-related news I have read suggests that some schools have perhaps become less focused on "teaching" and more concentrated on other issues that most would deem immensely petty.....
I never write about politics. Well, in my blogs or personal pieces anyway. I did once, it was regarding a certain Kennedy who was flirting with the idea of digging her heels into a political seat. But, that never happened... and it only caught my attention because since watching Oliver Stone's JFK and a White House Christmas special with Jackie O, I'm obsessed with the Kennedy's. Moving on.....
My cell phone is my lifeline, let's just get that out of the way. During the holidays, I misplaced my device and you would have thought the world was coming to an end. I searched high and low for my iPhone but could not locate it immediately... (too bad the thing doesn't have an "I'm lost, come find me" app, or maybe it does and I just haven't discovered it yet.)...
I don't know if any of you watch the show The Biggest Loser, but I am a fan, although I have not watched this particular season. The final weigh-in show is right around the corner, Dec. 8, I believe, when someone will gain the title "The Biggest Loser." Turns out that is a label that is actually pretty awesome to earn...
Ticketing thickets and rental shacks... The other night I had the extreme privilege of attending a hearing regarding derelict or dilapidated properties located inside our city. The meeting was interesting, to say the least. Maybe "entertaining" would be a better descriptive word, but the act could have been shorter. It lasted around two-hours...
What's for lunch? Kids grow up so fast! Each day I realize this more and more, when my little ones, appear to be not-so-little anymore with their grown-up ideas and maturing behaviors. Yesterday, for example, we were at my son Holden's baseball game when his brother, Chandler, a four-year-old going on 18, struck up a little conversation with my husband and I while sitting on the bleachers...
This morning I was informed by friends of our family that someone very dear to us passed away Thursday evening. The news was, as you can imagine, difficult to fathom, and saddened me very much. I have been praying every day for Miss Lindsey Pruett, and her family and friends, since hearing about her tragic accident on Sunday...
Mothers, if you're riding along in your SUV, listening to the radio accompanied by the sounds of your young daughter and her friends piled in the back seat, singing the latest Britney Spears song "If you seek Amy" from the top of their lungs... BEWARE!...
The piggy bank... I wanted to share an article I read recently that was pretty cool for parents. Especially, in helping our children know how to save a buck during these economically challenging times. The Piggy, The Wallet, And the Bank -- the Children's Cycle of Saving By: Mike Randelkski...
I remember being a teenager and my high school friends telling me that it was okay to tell my doctor that I did, in fact, engage in social smoking of cigarettes if he asked when my mom was out of the room, because, "They're not aloud to tell your parents about confidential stuff like that!" (Yeah right! I thought...)...
The family that plays together... Well, we survived the storm... all six of us that is. My husband Jake and I, along with our two boys, Holden and Chandler, and our dogs, Bailey and Mason, created a scene in our master bedroom during the days we were out of power that looked like something from the set of MASH...
And now something to make you say, "Did I just read what I think I read?" "Adult entertainment moguls Larry Flynt and Joe Francis are asking for a $5 billion bailout from the government, claiming the pornography industry is on the decline. Flynt, founder of the porn magazine Hustler, and Francis, 'Girls Gone Wild' producer, feel that they should be granted a portion of the recent $700 billion package by President George W. Bush to help the economy back on its feet...
So much talk about Caroline Kennedy's interest in the New York senate seat. People are saying her being a Kennedy alone, suffices, in terms of experience or what it would take to fill those Jimmy Choo shoes. I disagree. Don't get me wrong; I am a fan of the Kennedy family. ...
With Christmas right around the corner, I wanted to share a post I found by someone on the Web while doing what I do best during times of sheer boredom-- googling… I have very fond memories of Christmas when I was a child… We would always get a can of Christmas candy, a case of potato chips and a case of drinks, which would have to last my brother and I over the ten days of Christmas. ...
I am compelled to share my feelings on the recent election for the next president of the United States of America. I say "feelings" because, to be quite honest, I was truly moved by this pivotal moment in time. When the cameras panned the faces in the crowd at Chicago as Obama supporters rallied, chanting "Yes We Can," and "O-Bam-A," I witnessed change, progress, and the inner core of what being an American should mean...
Hey guys! Well, it is officially Halloween and I could not wait to get up this morning and put my costume together for our office party. For those of you who are not aware, the Daily Dunklin Democrat is hosting a ghoulish open house where all are welcome to come in and judge each department for the best costume and theme award...
We are a busy, bustling society. Take my blog for example. Between trying to play Mommy, buying my first home, taking a cruise to Cozumel and Key West, a family reunion, a tonsillectomy on my 3-year-old, taking in a new family pet, siphoning gas because, frankly, I can't afford it, and work... Its been a while folks. But I'm back and ready to sound off. Oh, Joy?! Ha!...
Time Out- Did you tune in? So what are your thoughts on the recent KAIT8 special featuring Kennett? Personally, aside from the technical difficulties the station experienced, I thought it was great. As always, Kennett's Condoleezza (Jan McElwrath, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce) represented Kennett well. People don't give this lady enough credit! I admire her dedication and commitment to our community, as well as her ability to shake things up in a man's world...
Time Out-Memories of a place called Camp McClanahan... Who here doesn't have some kind of memory of Camp McClanahan? If I were a betting girl I would say very few. In more ways than one, Camp McClanahan has touched the lives of many people in our community over the years. The camp has even served as a temporary safe haven to those individuals displaced in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina...
