To die satiated with life...

Posted Wednesday, August 26, 2009, at 7:47 AM

I guess when you choose teaching as a profession, you must accept the fact that your education is on going. With that said, I am now officially a student at the University of California--San Diego (UCSD). Yeah!

California Teacher Credentialing Program, now requires teachers to be authorized to teach "English Learners" and in order to do that, a credentialed teacher in California must take several classes(18 qrt units) in Cultural Diversity, Language, and topics relating to Inclusion. Could be because in Los Angles County alone, we teach to an extremely diverse population; as many as 92 different languages and as much as or more different cultures than the dominant one in schools currently. According to Oscar Kwageley, "The purpose of education is to die satiated with life" (Delpit,1995).

Let's test your knowledge of immigration! Go to:

See just how much you really know concerning this topic. I am betting you will find, as I did, that you don't' know as much as you thought. Our media slants and taints this topic, see what you think and write back in. Your thoughts will also help me on my next reflective paper. Thanks!

Surprisingly, I actually scored quite high.

One thing that disturbed me, illegal immigrants send back 31% of their US income to their home countries.

If they can afford to do that, and the government refuses to apprehend and deport them, then damn well cut off all the social services they receive paid for by the American taxpayers. Here in Arizona, they often flood the ER's with no more than the sniffles or a hang nail.
