SoCal wildfires

Posted Wednesday, October 24, 2007, at 11:18 AM

I woke up this morning to good news and bad news. The good news

is that some of the fires, like in Malibu are somewhat contained......bad news is we have one about 15 miles from here that is 0% contained. The Santiago fire down in Lake Forest/Irvine where my husband David is working is worse today and while we were watching the news this morning he saw his terminal on TV that is how close it is for him. He will be driving back down there today. Until they call for an evacuation anyway. The fires in San Diego are not expected to be under control until Oct 31. I opened the door this morning to let Jackson (my lab) outside; the smell was like a fireplace after something has been burning in it. I will keep him inside since the last time this happen, he nearly died from a respiratory infection. Today (Wednesday) could be the worse day for us; since the air quality is very poor. The fires affect everyone, from San Diego up to Santa Barbara. We are a bit spooked, but praying fervently. I was just told to get all my important papers, as in passports, insurance, birth certificates etc ready to be taken out the door, just in case. You may have seen this last night on Larry King; a man and his family went to bed with the closes fire about 40 miles from their home and they were awaken two hours later and it was in their back yard. The winds seem to be calmer today; we hope they remain that way.

My very good friend, Jo Deck and her son Hampton were just out here to visit this past weekend. They flew back east on Sunday morning, wishing they could stay longer in this beautiful paradise! Ha!! I know they are happy to be back in Kennett Missouri. Keep us in your prayers, all of us. Cindy

My prayers are with everyone out there, Stay safe and dont be afraid to walk away from your belongings if it gets to close. Family & Friends are more important than any car or house. May God Bless You All! No one should have to go to sleep worried.I feel for you Cindy. I would not like to have to go through that. Duh! Like anyone would? Sorry for the stupid comment!

I am a huge Chiefs Fan(football) and I sometimes do a little war dance to get the defence going. I'm doing one now for RAIN in SD.

I have friends all over SOCA. My sister lives in OC. Last years fire was in her back yard, maybe this year she will be saved. Lost "things" might be hard to replace but lives are not replaceable. Stay Safe out there. Pack your "get away" box and keep us posted. GOD Bless to you and your family.

Wish we could send the rain in Kennet to you.

I was wondering if the fires were close to you. I assume you and your family escaped harm! My husband has 3 uncles and many cousins in South CA and some had to evacuate. All are fine and back home. The end of Oct, my daughter Sarah flew your direction to visit her boyfriend that recently moved to LA. She said the fires where something to see from the air. I enjoy your comments and post!

Take Care,

Sandy Blattel

How about the witch fire streaming right beside my apartment complex. My mom and grandmother touched down here in San Diego about 12hours after the fires started. We had to cancel a lot of our plans because San Diego county basically shut down! It was anything but a paradise that week!
