BadBones: Getting attention

Back in the 80's it was all about flyers. If there was a storefront that would allow you to post a flyer on their door, It was there. I am glad that storeowners still feel the same way about helping out local shows. But I also remember how every lamppost on the strip would be decorated with multi-colored paper announcing some type of show or event. The only problem with that concept was that no one would ever take down his or her old flyers, and it would rain, snow, and tear in the wind. So now you have this old faded piece of ripped up paper hanging off of every pole a staple could go in. And that looks bad on the city.
So I understand why you cannot post on lampposts or stop signs. But what's a band to do, other than flyer store windows when your just small town musicians? Well, I'll tell you! There are many ways to advertise and market your band. Even in Southeast Missouri and More! There are 3 major music websites that support our local music scene and all three of these websites allow you to hook up with other musicians as well as find the places that have bands for easier gig access and more. These three websites are all free. http://theboneyard.wasteland-inc.com/portal.php And don't forget the almighty myspace. www.myspace.com is a bands gift from god. It gives you just about everything you need. Even the record companies have a myspace page. Another way to get your band some attention is to send your info to radio stations. But we all know that you cannot just send your music to a radio station and expect to get air play. Why? I don't know! But its harder to get your song played than one would think. Right? Wrong! I know of one, and it's right here in the Bootheel. All you have to do to hear our local scene is to tune in, but if you want to get some airplay, follow these 3 steps. First, you must have a quality recording, or an extremely great song. So pick the best songs you have. The radio station will want to hear the good stuff. Second, send your demo or press packet with your contact info, and info about your group to: Z95 The Bone 1015 West Pine Street Poplar Bluff, MO 63901 Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

Third, Register on these websites and get known.
Good deal BadBones
if I could add 1 thing it would be internet radio sites..
A lot of them cater to lesser known, underground and unsigned bands.
True, Maybe the next blog should be about that, due to this being all about music and the world wide web.
