We are still requesting that you send us your family histories for the Archive Room. Come by and talk to me about this maybe I can help you get started. We are getting family histories from people out of town with roots here but we need local input to help make this work.
There will also be a genealogy seminar for beginners on Thursday the 31 at 7:00 p.m. on how to get started. There will be a $10 fee for this due to supplies you will be provided. You must sign up and have your fee paid by Monday, August 27 or you will not be guaranteed a seat. To sign up for these seminars, call me at (573) 380 1322 to get your seat reserved.
We have the Oak Grove Baptist Church Record book from April 11, 1896 to January 9, 1921 in our Archive Room. Oak Grove Baptist Church was south of Malden - the cemetery is still there. It lists the members and minutes from their business meetings. Come by and take a look -very interesting.

From the Malden Merit 1912:
"Since the courts have given their decisions in favor of the Little River Drainage District, it is expected that work will begin on the same in a short time. This is a great undertaking; the district is composed of 500,000 acres in eight counties."
"The contract has been let on the new brick building on Stoddard County's poor farm. It is to be two stories, with wings and the contract price is $7,300." (Building still stands south of Bloomfield on the east side of highway 25)
"A movement has been started in Butler county to organize a drainage district to drain a large body of swamp land in that county. It is estimated that 20,000 acres will be included in the proposed district."
"Malden is waiting patiently for that new depot the Cotton Belt has been contemplating building for some time."
"Without a single exception the entire corps of teachers, Superintendent included, of Malden Public School: are taking teacher's summer course at the Normals and State University. Singular as it may be, their course has been voluntarily, and reveals the pride and interest they take in maintaining the high standard of the school." (Our award winning school and faculty continues to maintain high standards year after year.)
"It's easier for a mother to train up her son in the way he should go than it is for her to prevent him from going some other woman's way a few years later. "
"Few are the men who would have reached the top of the ladder if their wives hadn't steadied it for them."
