Malden friends were very saddened to learn of the recent death of Mrs. Elizabeth "Liz" Long of Jackson, Mo., on August 19. Funeral services were held at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. Burial was in the Bloomfield Veterans cemetery. Surviving are her husband and two daughters. Liz was well known in Malden, as she was an employee of the Bill Green Engineering firm.

A number of Malden folks enjoyed the Kennett arts and music festival held at Kennett court square last weekend.

Evening fellowship of the First Christian Church was held last Monday evening at 6:00 p.m. at the home of Charlie and Jackie Mitchell.

Bingo games were enjoyed at the Malden Senior Nutrition site on Thursday morning. Prizes were awarded.

Dr. Frank Nickel of the Southeast Missouri State University faculty in Cape Girardeau appeared on KFVS television last week. He and his team were finding historical significant articles on the river bed due to extremely low water levels. Dr. Nickels is a frequent visitor and advisor to the Malden Historical Museum.

I remember a 1959 Malden day in the St. Louis Cardinal Busch Stadium in St. Louis. It honored pitcher Gary Blalock of Malden, a pitcher of the cardinal staff. A shotgun was presented to Gary during pre game festivities. The late Russell Hoehn and the late Bill Tenkhoff ere among those in attendance. Sally Hemus was the St. Louis coach.

Mrs. Charlotte Hays of Poplar Bluff visited with friends in Malden Saturday and also visited the Malden Historical Museum.

A surprise 70th birthday party was tendered Elizabeth Haskins in the fellowship hall of the Malden United Methodist Church. Hostesses were Susan Martin and Becky Potts.

Relatives and friends enjoyed a birthday party luncheon honoring Jerry at the Malden Nutrition Center last Thursday. Birthday cake and ice cream were served following luncheon.
