Malden friends were saddened to learn of the death of Richard Lavern "Dickie" Hampton on Thursday, February 2, in Hurst, Texas. Born May 24, 1932 in Malden, Mo and as a former Malden resident, Richard was a retired carpenter and builder. Surviving is one son, Richard Scott Hampton, one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren. The funeral was held at Cottrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff with Reverend James Schremp officiating. Burial was in Memorial Garden Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
~~~~~~~~~ The Malden Macedonia Baptist Church observed Black History Day services on Sunday, February 19, which included a special song service. A noon dinner followed in the fellowship hall. ~~~~~~~~~ Bo and Jo Ann McCurter have returned home following a trip to Perland, Texas, where they attended funeral services for Alvin "Al" Hartsfield, Sr. ~~~~~~~~~ Jordan Elizabeth Reece, daughter of Steve and Sheliah Reece of Malden was married in a ceremony to Scottie Dewayne Lindsay of Poplar Bluff. A reception was held in the Westwood Ballroom after the ceremony. The couple will reside in Poplar Bluff. ~~~~~~~~~ Valentine's Day was again celebrated at the senior center with prize heart boxes of chocolates given to the lucky winners. The lucky winners were Wanda Wilburn and Lottie Cannady. ~~~~~~~~~ A group of Malden folks enjoyed a wonderful Carnival cruise trip to Mexico recently with great warm weather. Embarking out of New Orleans, the following made the trip; David and Deb Kendrick, Patty and Jerry Smith, Jeanie and Kelley Pickard, and Terry and Joy Miller. ~~~~~~~~~ The family and relatives of the late Mrs. Cloella Sparks were entertained at luncheon by the Methodist Church ladies in the fellowship hall Saturday afternoon. ~~~~~~~~~ Tax and filing assistance will be conducted beginning every Friday throughout February in the Malden Community Center from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. ~~~~~~~~~ Mr. and Mrs. Mark Squires of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin have returned home following a stay in Malden with relatives. ~~~~~~~~~ A valentine party was enjoyed by residents and staff of the Gideon Nursing and Care Home on Valentine's day. Mrs. Edna Bently was crowned valentine queen and lovely refreshments were served by the staff. ~~~~~~~~~ Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Patterson of Memphis have returned home following a stay in Malden with relatives and friends. Jerry is a former Malden resident and Malden High School graduate. |
