Mrs. Ilena Aslin of the AARP Executive Council in Cape Girardeau spent last Monday in Malden. She met with the Malden Chamber of Commerce, and the folks in the Malden Nutrition Senior Center. Her lecture topic was "Retaining the U.S. Social Security Program" strong and stable. She passed out informative sheets on the Social Security subject. She also stressed the "Walk of Life" program.

Stokes Howell has returned to New York City after a visit with his home town Malden.

John Green has returned home following a stay in the St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Linda Beardsley and Laurie Coffin have returned home following a trip to Henderson, Ky. While there, they toured the Autabon State Park, and the museum.

A large group of friends and relatives attended a pre-natal shower for Mrs. Kristie Lape Cowgill last Sunday afternoon in the fellowship hall of the Malden First Christian Church. Lovely refreshments were served by the following hostesses; Mrs. Brook Hartsfield, Mrs. Jackie Bennett, Mrs. Jeanie Herbst, Mrs. Norma Hartsfield, Mrs. Susie Rhinehardt, Mrs. Tracy Bullock, and Mrs. Barbara Langston.

Invitations have been received to attend an opening reception for artist Sali Ware of Malden Saturday August 6 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. At the Margaret Harwell Art Museum in Poplar Bluff.

Celebrity Sheryl Crow of Kennett had an announcement on Cape Girardeau television KFVS last week. She is going to auction off her 1959 Mercedes Benz automobile. She will present the proceeds to the Joplin, Mo., disaster recovery effort. Bravo Sheryl !

Friends and relatives were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Michael "Tuffy" Uthoff of Jonesboro, Ark., last week. Services were held in Jonesboro. A long time Malden resident, Tuffy was the son of the late Aileeen and Dub Uthoff of Malden. He was a Malden High School graduate class of 1969.

Howard and Maxine Brooks enjoyed a great week while entertaining their two nieces from Ogalusa, La. Sandy Brumfield and Debbie Potter were guests of the Brooks. They all enjoyed a dinner trip to Lambert's restaurant in Sikeston featuring the throwed rolls.

Barbara Bath has returned home following a trip to Ocean View, New Jersey where she visited her family, Mary and Hans Jaquett and Katie Watson and Quartz.
