Cape Girardeau County S.A.L.T. (Seniors and Lawmen Together) serves as an advisory council to address the unmet personal safety issues, needs, and concerns of older citizens. The major emphasis is a two part approach:

1 -- Implement effective crime prevention and educational programs for senior citizens in Cape Girardeau County

2 -- Help to provide honor, recognition and enjoyment for this segment of our population that has given so much to so many

The Council membership is comprised of seniors, law enforcement and providers of services for seniors. They meet once a month and generally host three special programs each year, a memorial service for officers fallen in the line of duty; an educational program for seniors regarding safety issues at this program there are provider booths with information about their programs and how seniors can access those programs, then at Christmas time there is always a party given for the seniors. At each of these functions there is an opportunity for the seniors and the law enforcement to get acquainted, we believe this makes for a better relationship between the two groups.

If you think this is something from which your county would benefit you may want to talk to your local law enforcement to see if they are interested. For more information you can call SEMO AAA at 1-800-392-8771.
