Good-byes...Posted Thursday, July 15, 2010, at 10:43 AM
It is always difficult to say good-bye to people or places. I have known of the difficulty in saying good-bye to people for some time, but just recently discovered the issues with saying good-bye to places.
On a June afternoon, a fire was spotted coming from Ramey's Supermarket in Senath, Mo. After traveling down the street to see the fire, I assumed that the building would have minimal damages. Little did I know, after an hour had passed, the whole building would be rolling in flames and smoke. As I watched the fire I thought of all the Christmas and Thanksgiving meal trips that I had made to the town grocery store over the years. I thought of all the lists of groceries given to me by my grandmother years ago. I thought of all the friends that I had known who began their working careers in that very building. The store, like any other store, received its bad publicity through the gossip of small town. The store did however hold its own value in the heart of the community members. Although Ramey's was just a store in the small town of Senath, it held within its walls a great history of the town's people past and present. For these reasons it will be missed. Good-bye Rameys.
