Realizing Arrest

I am aware that my colleague, George Anderson, has written a blog about our recent adventure with the Kennett Police Department's Strategic Response Team (SRT), but two perspectives on the issue can't be a bad thing.
As George noted, the two of us recently attended a training for the SRT, during which we portrayed the "bad guys" that the team was after. This experience made me realize how terrible it would be to actually be arrested by this team, and they were taking it easy on us. At one point, I informed officer Mark Dennis of my realization while he was maintaining a weapon on me, the apprehended suspect. Dennis replied that, if this was for real, the arrest would move a whole lot quicker. The slow moving arrest was intimidating enough for me to know that I never want to be in that position in reality. Tim Trowbridge, team commander of the SRT, informed me and George of our assignment, and the nerves set in. As we hid in our rooms, all I could hear was the sound of the shouting and moving of the well oiled machine of officers forwarding through the building, and leading to impending doom for the "bad guys." I tried to imagine at that moment the thoughts I would have if I was in the situation in reality. The wait for the officers to reach, although it lasted every bit of five seconds, feels like eternity, and to an actual criminal could be physically and mentally paralyzing. Overall, this was a pretty intimidating and enlightening experience, and my heart jumped each time the officers found our hide out. |
