If I were Rich

Posted Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at 3:48 PM

Over the course of my life I have heard people from all areas say the same phrase. "If I were rich, I wouldn't do anything." I have heard this phrase from various people including friends, family, TV personalities, and strangers.

The fact of the phrase is that if anyone were rich it is not that they would do nothing, it is that they would do what they like to do.

The sad truth of this is that people should be doing what they like to do whether they are rich or not. Many people have jobs that they dislike and that is not a good place to be. You should always strive to get to where you want to be in life. Never settle for something because it is convenient, unless convenience is what you truly seek.

The purpose of this blog is to remind people that you shouldn't stop trying to achieve more from life. Always work to further yourself and push your limits. There are extremes levels of this and I am not encouraging anyone to act abruptly, especially with the current status of the economy.

Instead, work towards your goals during free time and continue to dream and progress towards those dreams.

If your life's ambition is to be a rock star, then work at it. I am not saying that everyone can become Freddie Mercury with hard work alone, but you will have a good time attempting it.

Maybe during the downed economy is the perfect time to begin focusing on hidden talents and aspirations that have been hidden from the world's eye for too long.

Joshua, you wrote:

You have hit the nail on the head...That's how I am trying to live my life...never settling, always trying to achieve something higher, something "more from life". Unfortunately, too many people confuse this with being "snobbish".

George Washington once said, "Associate yourself with men of good quality if you esteem your own reputation. It is better be alone than in bad company."

Phooey, I thought you'd talk about the things you'd do if you were rich, like build a community center/library for your town, fund the beautification of a park, provide a million dollars to the local school system to modernize their technology and add new facilities.

I think it's sad that more of the mega-wealthy don't step up and give back to their communities, like Keller did for the Dexter library or Cheryl Crowe did for Kennett's aquatic center. That's so much better than building a huge house and living a lavish life-style.

Wealth should carry some responsibilites.
