Where does the time go?Posted Monday, April 12, 2010, at 10:32 AM
This past weekend (April 10-11) my wife and I took our son to two birthday parties -- one for his cousin and one for his friend (busy weekend).
The party for his cousin was at Indian Park. I watched as he ran around like a mad man, playing in the rocks, sliding down the slides, and climbing on the jungle gym. He had a ball. The party for his friend (from daycare) was at the Bootheel Youth Museum at Malden. At the museum, I watched while he played on fire trucks, slid down slides, pretended to cook food, and more. Both parties were for children who were turning two. Later this month (April 23, to be exact), my son will be turning three. THREE! It seems like just yesterday I was taking my wife to the hospital at 3 o'clock in the morning and (a very LOOONNGG)19 hours later, my son was born. I was looking at photos from January 2009 over the weekend and he looked so small. Now, he is about 3 feet tall (give or take), and sharp as a tack. For all of the other birthday parties we have been to over the past couple years, we have always picked out the gifts. For the parties this weekend, my son picked out the gifts (which the kids LOVED!). Last April, my son was still stammering with some words and today, he astounds me with his vocabulary. The little guy that I used to have to carry everywhere now tells me emphatically, "I want to walk," when we go shopping (unless there is a large crowd of people in a small area. Then, when I look down, I see two outstretched arms and large eyes looking back up at me). Where does the time go? I'm sure every parent asks themselves that question. I guess we just have to enjoy the time we have.... |
