A new addition

Recently, as of Saturday, June 27, I believe, my family welcomed a new pet to our home -- a kitten.

A couple that we know, (Chris and Heather R.) and who know my wife works at KenMo Vet Clinic, stopped in a few weekends ago (June 20-21 to be exact) with a small, tan kitten.

Heather said her dogs had found it in her back yard and wouldn't leave it alone and it looked to be ill.

So my wife, being the animal lover she is, told Heather that she would get the kitten back to good health and find it a home (little did I know at that time that the "home" the kitten would find would be with us).

So my wife gave the kitten a bath (never have I seen a cat get a bath), gave him some medicine (we found out he was a "he" after she took him to the vet a few days later), and he began to look much better.

So the kitten had the run of my house for a week, making himself very much at-home. On Saturday, June 27, my wife took the kitten, along with a white cat from her mom and a small black puppy that she was fostering, to the Adopt-A-Pet day at Doggie Do's (organized by Kennett Humane Officer Tina Petix and Doggie Do's owner Lora Tate).

My wife said as soon as she walked through the door, someone wanted the puppy (buh-bye puppy). The event lasted a few hours and by the end of the day, several dogs found homes...the same cannot be said for the cats -- not one cat was adopted out at the event.

Thus, the kitten came back home...

While trying to decide what to do with the kitten on Sunday, my wife and I began watching it as it played with my son's Hotwheels®, played with our dogs, and even let my son pick him up without hissing or slapping at him (good cat).

I guess it was at this time that we decided to keep the kitten.

NOW FOR A NAME...

I don't recall what my wife wanted to name the kitten initially, however I do recall the names Chester and Cheetoh being thrown around.

As my wife stared at the kitten, she asked, "What's something that is all tan?"

The first thing that popped out of my mouth was "Knit Knots," referring to a character from one of the shows that my son watches on Disney, "Imagination Movers."

My son seemed to like the name and so it stuck, welcome to the family Knit Knots.
