Cardinals obtain DeRosaPosted Saturday, June 27, 2009, at 10:10 PM
Just a quick update post here. The Cardinals have traded RHP Chris Perez and a player to be named later to Cleveland for Mark DeRosa. DeRosa is currently hitting .270 with 13 home runs and 50 RBIs. Looks like the Cardinals have obtained their third baseman, and he will also be able to spell left-handed outfielders when a lefty is pitching. I like the trade. We will see if the Cardinals are really ready to make some noise if the talks continue with Matt Holliday. I kind of doubt it, but who knows?

In Bernie's (STL P-D) blog today he says that Beane was asking for Brett Wallace, Motte or Perez and another elite prospect. That is quite a bit to give for someone with worse HR and RBI numbers than DeRosa. Now if Beane lowers his demands before the trade deadline, fine. But I just don't see it happening. Bernie would like to see them consider a pitcher since Wellemeyer is basically a steaming pile of crap out on the mound (the pitching equivalent to Chris Duncan). Thompson has been knocked around in his last two starts. Luckily it appears that Lohse is back soon.
I highly doubt we get Holliday unless it's in the offseason. We do have to have another starter, though. We can't fill the need from within the organization, and Wellemeyer is the guy all other teams want on the mound. Thompson is definitely not the answer either, obviously. This team better turn something around really quickly.
